There is so much more to this ideology that is frightening that I hesitated to squeeze it all in the lead post, and I have also been absorbing so much more of the same lunacy in recent days that I felt compelled to add to the original post. The Marxist regime is coming but you can now add the spectre of Stalinist, as well.
New York State Senator Carl Kruger wants to make it a criminal offense to cross the street while listening to your iPod. The penalty? Offenders would be issued a criminal court summons, have to pay a $100 fine, and appear in court. His rationale for this is summed up in this quote: “You shouldn’t be crossing streets and endangering the lives of yourself and others.” How very totalitarian of him! Why, just imagine giving citizens the freedom to cross the street.
The ban would also include cell phones, Blackberrys, MP3 players, or any other electronic device while crossing the street. Soon people will be forced to walk in single file (marching) to minimize the risk of having a conversation while you cross the street.
Also from the Socialist State of Hysteria, this sparkling gem of liberty: It is happening all over the country…laws to ban smoking in your own car with your own kids. I know, some of you will say this is bad form anyway, but it is not illegal to smoke. And the jury is still out regarding the dangers of second hand smoke, so this is nothing more than a government intrusion into your civil liberties, something the left claims to hold dear.
Don’t want to argue the merits (or lack thereof) where smoking is concerned? Fine, let’s move on to other areas where the government is trying to wrest control of our lives.
This bill, in Texas of all places, will make it a misdemeanor to miss an appointment with your child’s teacher. Think about this…another child has an emergency that you must attend to and it could cost you a $500 fine and a criminal record. How does having your overseas phone calls listened in on feel now? More or less of a threat to your freedom? Hold tight, we’re not done yet…
With this bit of tyranny from California, you could land in jail for up to a year…for disciplining your own child. I fear that we are actually much closer to spelling America with a “k” than we thought possible.
